Please join us in welcoming Claire Beddoe to the Camp Kirk Office Team! As our Assistant Director, Claire will be a big part of all things Camp Kirk this summer, and has been instrumental in the leadup to this season, working with our families, and leading Community Weekends with Sean.

Claire has been a part of the Camp Kirk team since 2018, and we are so happy to have her on our Admin team. Take a read below to learn more about Claire!

“Hello! I am delighted to officially introduce myself to the Camp Kirk community as Assistant Director.

I’ve had quite a few memorable years at camp. My first year was back in 2018, when I started working as a counselor. I found myself learning heaps about neurodiverse youth which would drastically inform what I wanted to do after my studies. I worked as a counselor again in 2019, and felt a growing appreciation for leadership programming and all-camp programming. During the 2020 year of covid closures, I  volunteered with Camp Kirk to provide some online fun and reconnect with our campers.

After a year off amid the second covid closure I was thrilled to come back in 2022 in a new role as the first Community Care Director. I dipped my toes into a little bit of everything as I was discovering the role. I organized all-camp-programs including our famous campfires, special events, clubs, Camp-Kirk-Classic, Cabin Acts, freetime activities and theme dinners. I also worked closely with counselors to support campers, ran the canoe program and supervised the maintenance of the camp.

Through most of my years at camp, I was pursuing my undergraduate degree. I completed my uOttawa History degree in the summer of 2021- and promptly left the country! I have a love for languages, culture and travel, and took a gap from my studies from September to June to teach English in Spain. I did this as a fabulous way to travel as a young professional as well as to learn a third language,  but mainly to try out working with youth in the classroom setting.

This year I’m based in Peterborough and I’ve started the first part of my two-year journey through teacher’s college. My hope is to apply all my experiences to teach the next generation in a relevant and inclusive way.

I’m so very excited to work with our camper families more closely in 2023 and to make this thirtieth Camp Kirk year a historic one!”
